A large cased model of the ship Rms Australia Australian, Circa 1920 191 x 118 x 52 cm With original presentation table A luxurious Royal Mail P&O Steam Navigation Co Ltd four masted Snow rig iron construction steamer and screw driven 465 foot vessel built in 1892 by Caird & Co. in Greenock, Scotland. Unfortunately, on 20/06/1904 with the pilot Mr Dennis in charge with a bad case of Bright's disease (eyes) she struck Corsair Rock, Port Phillip Head travelling at 14.5 knots. She was 'a mass of twisted, matted metal.' A beautiful ship that saw just 12 years active service but one of the vast number of ships to founder on Australian shores.
