A rare ladder back Casuarina and red gum ladder back arm chair 97 x 54 x 63 cm a very rare and important item. This chair would have had a rush woven seat originally. One known maker is Henry Goldfinch of Strathalbyn, these remarkable chairs, of which only a handful have survived were constructed using axe, knife and auger. Whereas the English ladder back would be mortised and tenoned Goldsmith im. Provised by making his joints more like a rod and socket, the triangular form of the rails is completely idiosynchratic to Goldfinch. Similar examples and ref: p. 172 G.
