The Atkins chest, New Zealand Colonial Rewa Rewa secretaire chest fall front writing surface revealing an interior with open recess and four small drawers, eight drawers below on box base this desk was made for the Atkins family of Auckland in the 1890s, believed to be 1896. The Atkins family was a wealthy family with interests in the red meat industry in the Northland/Auckland area. This desk was one of three bespoke pieces commissioned by the family at that time. The pieces were separated in the early 2000s when this piece was purchased. It is unusual to find such large pieces of furniture made from Rewa Rewa
