The Football Record: 1978 editions for 16 of the Home-and-Away Rounds, together with the Special Editions for the Elimination Final (Carlton v Geelong), the Second Semi-Final (North Melbourne v Hawthorn), the Preliminary Final (North Melbourne v Collingwood), and the Grand Final (Hawthorn v North Melbourne). Also, 4 other items. (Total: 24). Hawthorn 18.13 (121) defeated North Melbourne 15.13 (103) in the Grand Final in front of 101,704 fans. The reverse was the outcome in the Reserves Grand Final, with North defeating Hawthorn. North Melbourne's Malcolm Blight won the 1978 Brownlow Medal.
