A c.1900 museum quality large and impressive Japanese ivory ornately carved tusk section the all-over decoration of a busy market scene with multiple figures, various stall sellers, buildings and trees, highlighted in deep relief, wide flat top rim, the base fitted to a carved hardwood stand raised on four scroll legs. Provenance: This lot sold previously by Cordy's came from the estate collection of the late Mr Charles Cox (passed away 1992), an Auckland businessman who collected through his entire life, after collecting European porcelain, he then developed an interest in Oriental items. He purchased throughout New Zealand with 'many items purchased from Cordy's auctions', the majority of his collection was gathered through the 1960s and 1970s.
