A Japanese Kyoto Satsuma studio vase, Meiji period (1868-1912), circa 1880s, the ovoid stoneware vase covered in a crackled straw-coloured glaze, decorated with trees, flowers, birds and insects in overglaze enamels and gilding. Two ears/handles to the shoulder in the form of curled leaves. Four-character mark 'Satsuma Kinunzan' or 'Satsuma Nishiki Unzan' in iron red to the base. 14 cm high, 12 cm diameter,
