A Japanese Shinkai Kanzan studio vase, Shinkai Kanzan (1912-), circa 1950s, the vase of stoneware, decorated to the shoulder with three stylised fish incised into a white slip, covered in a clear greenish-blue glaze. With an impressed mark to the base and two-character 'Kanzan' painted mark in underglaze blue. 16 cm high, 11.5 cm diameter, Other Notes: one of the most important Japanese postwar artists, he won the Nitten Tokusen prize in 1951, the Ministry of culture Award in 1974, and the Japan Art Academy Award in 1980, amongst others.
