A Chinese ivory games set and lacquer board, in original black lacquer and gilt folding case, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, consisting of chess and backgammon with two dice cups and two sets of rival mandarins and their consorts intricately carved in detail, in natural and red. Each piece on a raised base with a garland bead above a round foot decorated with a petal pattern. A backgammon/ checkers set of 16 pieces each of dyed red and natural ivory of a double sided disc, each side finely carved with scenes of people and buildings amongst foliage, and the matching dice cups with similar decoration. The outside is a chess board and the interior painted for backgammon., height 10.5 cm dice cups 7 cm, case height 8 cm, length 48 cm, width 24 cm
