Sir Hayden Erskine Starke (1871 - 1958) and his son, Sir John Erskine Starke (1913 - 1994): An archive. Comprising of five letters to Hayden Erskine Starke (1892-1939) who became a Justice of the High Court of Australia (1920-50), 2 portrait photographs of him and a 'Low' caricature. However, the majority of the archive concerns John Erskine Starke, who became a Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria following his military service during World War II. Present are his group of seven medals (1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, UK Defence Medal, UK 1939-45 War Medal, Australian Service Medal 1939-45 and his Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal, mounted as worn. Also present is the group of miniatures of these awards, various military insignia, buttons and uniform patches as well as various sporting club and other membership badges including VRC and MCC. The archive also preserves more than 200 letters and telegrams regarding Sir John's legal career, elevation to the knighthood, etc., many from notable Australians. Finally, Sir John's cased Bachelor neck badge and ribbon is present in its original box.
