(1892-93 was the first year of the Sheffield Shield after Lord Sheffield donated £150 to fund a trophy for an annual tournament of intercolonial cricket in Australia. Jack Worrall captained Victoria to victory in all 4 matches of the first season; he played 11 Tests for Australia 1884-1899; he also played football for Fitzroy 1884-1893, and was the first football coach, initially with Carlton 1902-1909, and then Essendon 1911-20, winning 5 Premierships).
