American hollow body electro-acoustic guitar, by John D'Angelico, New Yorker/Excel model, serial number 1916, New York, circa 1953, the 'D'Angelico / New York / Excel' logo and model inlaid in mother-of-pearl to the headstock along with insets to the fingerboard. The maker's logo also engraved to the tailpiece and to the interior with the date '1916'. Fitted with a tortoiseshell pick guard, a DeArmond pickup, volume and tone dials, and rhythm switch. With original hard shell case, 112 cm long. Provenance: Originally made for Tom Di Bianco on 14th April 1953, and described as a New Yorker model in the D'Angelico register.
