A Japanese Seto Kato Gosuke blue and white vase, Kato Gosuke IV (1839-1905), Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th century, moulded porcelain in the form of a ribbed gourd above three feet, decorated all over with phoenix interspersed with chrysanthemum and paulownia mon amongst scrolling foliage in underglaze blue. Signed with a six character mark in underglaze blue to the base for Kato Gosuke IV (1839-1912)., 21 cm high, 14 cm diameter, other notes: Kato Gosuke IV was one of the leading potters of Seto, Japan, in the Meiji period. His works are held in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Walters Art Museum in Maryland amongst others.
