A Japanese Bizen Mizusashi, Edo period (1603-1868), circa early 19th century, the hourglass shaped cold water jar for tea ceremony with a high flaring foot, the mouth of hexagonal section, with applied decoration of a stylised flower to the front, with desirable characteristic effects to the surface including hidasuki lines and goma (sesame ash glaze) spots. 'T' shaped impressed potter's mark to the base. Together with the original purpose made hexagonal black lacquer lid with an arch handle., 16.5 cm high, 23 cm diameter.
