Two Indian relief carved wooden panels, Gujarat, circa 18th century, both panels carved in relief from solid teak boards, one with a Mughal style lattice of scrolling flower vines, the other with a vase to the centre flanked by two peacocks, with scrolling flower vines emanating from the vase. Both panels covered in green mineral pigment, the second panel with remnant blue and yellow pigments to the vase and peacocks., the larger panel 32 cm high, 202 cm wide. Provenance: Salvaged by the Copelands from an 18th century palace in Palitana, Gujarat, which was demolished in 1978. The salvage was managed by the Gujarati Handicraft Association, and the purchase made through that organisation.
