Victoria racing club medallion (1929-1930). On the reverse side 1929-1930 949 Bentley. For this medallion's provenance & its particular historical interest see the attached letter from (Dr) Andrew lemon Consultant Historian to the Victoria racing club. The letter confirms that this is an authentic Victoria racing club member's medallion (no.949) issued for the racing season 1929-1930. Additional historical interest & value is given to this item by the membership register for that year allocating the number 949 to Mr Rupert Greene who was the official race starter for the Victoria racing club from 1914 until the end of 1944. The letter also notes that Rupert Greene was the father of Dame Elizabeth Murdoch & that it is understood that Rupert Murdoch was named Rupert after him. Bentley is the name of a metal stamping business in Melbourne which was in business from the 1870s until the end of the second World War. They supplied membership medallions to the club.
