Don Bradman match used & signed bat full size 'Sykes - Don Bradman - World's Record' cricket bat, inscribed 'Don Bradman. Private' in the ownership position, and with presentation inscription 'To George Miles, in appreciation & with best wishes, from Don'. The bat has been heavily used, and is believed to have been match-used by Bradman against the 1931-32 South Africans, against whom Bradman scored 806 runs with a high score of 299*, and an average of 201.5. While Bradman's bat with which he scored 226 V South Africa is at the Mortlock library, with this bat he scores 219 for NSW V South Africa, 112 V South Africa and 167 V South Africa. The bat has been varnished, so superb appearance, and most signatures in excellent condition. Then used by Bradman to collect autographs, and signed on front & reverse by 8 teams - 1931-32 South Africa, 1931-32 Australia, 1932-33 England 'Bodyline', 1932-33 Australia, 1935-36 MCC, 1936-37 England, 1936-37 Australia & 1947-48 India, with a total of 119 signatures including Jock Cameron, Alex bell, bill Woodfull, Don Bradman, Douglas Jardine, Harold Larwood, Victor Richardson, Bert Oldfield, Gubby Allen, Walter Hammond, Stan McCabe, bill brown, E.R.T.Holmes, Joe Hardstaff, Lala Armanath & Vijay Hazare. Provenance: Ex George Miles who played cricket for Mick Simmonds, the Sydney sports store for which Bradman did promotional work. Miles worked for the store for 34 years, repairing bats and re-stringing handles for the store and Bradman. For a time Miles and Bradman both lived in Mortlake Street, Concord, Sydney. Sold by Christies, Melbourne in March 2002, and added to the Moyle collection. Displayed at the National sports Museum at the MCG from 2008-2012.
