A massive Imari 'Nanban' ship charger Meiji period, late 19th century, of shallow saucer shape with broad everted rim, the interior decorated in iron-red, black, green and aubergine enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with a central Dutch ship medallion within a border of dragons among clouds, encircled around the cavetto with pairs of Dutch figures, ship vignettes and faux coats of arms, all reserved on the geometric florette diaper ground, the rim with a band of ribboned objects, the underside with peony sprays and the base with brownish wash and iron-red inscription reading Imari, 75 cm diameter.
