An Australian carved cedar and specimen wood inlaid frame by Captain Joseph Creese (circa 1856-1940) 89 x 71 cm (frame) note Captain Joseph Creese was one of the last keepers of the Derwent lighthouse, also known as the iron pot lighthouse. During his time as a lighthouse keeper Captain Creese was known to have made a number of these frames and probably included the present example. Typical of the style of the pieces he created the work shows a talent for the laborious task of stippling and inlaying various timbers.
