A set of eight Chinese carved ivory 'Horses of Happiness', each in a different pose and raised on a conforming carved wood stand. Tallest height 7.3 cm. According to legend, the Emperor Nu-Wang who reigned in 746B.C. possessed eight horses which assisted him throughout his reign and finally took him to paradise.
