A Centenary Ball At Adelaide Town Hall, Hand-coloured lithograph titled 'Juvenile Fancy Dress Ball, Held in the Town Hall, On Thursday, October 17, 1888. Given By Lady Smith, Mayoress of Adelaide', signed 'E.M.Harrel' in the plate at lower right., framed & glazed, overall 63 x 75 cm. (image 40 x 50 cm), It must be particularly gratifying to Sir Edwin and Lady Smith to find their public entertainments so much appreciated, and they were no doubt afforded much pleasure last night by the magnificent collection of costumes. Several thousands of pounds must have been spent by the parents of the little ones in providing their various attires, and this fact is no less a compliment to the worthy mayor and his consort than was the cordial welcome which met them on all sides when they entered the hall.'
