Chinese Qing Dynasty rank badge, c.1890, for wife of 6th rank military official, of square form, with central panther embroidered in gold thread, accented with wealth symbols, surrounded by wufu, geometric motifs and wufu border, in tones of blue, purple, green, red and white on a black ground, accented in gold thread, with blue silk lining, 30 cm x 32 cm note: military badges are rare because these officials did not have many official garments and many of the military badges that have survived are for their wives.
