Cartier Helm an 18ct gold, lapis lazuli, jade and diamond-set desk timepiece, circa 1940 dial: jadeite, lapis lazuli centre field calibre: circular jewelled lever movement case: 18ct gold, openwork bezel with 12 lapis lazuli baton hour markers, hinged crystal strut case numbers: 01335, 160, dimensions approximately 80 mm diameter signed: case accessories: none in the first quarter of the 19th century, Cartier created some of the world's most extraordinary clocks. Cartier's Art Deco period which the present lot draws from, took inspiration from Egyptian, Persian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese cultures and motifs. They were highly imaginative and fanciful, using a dazzling array of the finest jewels and precious stones in the most imaginative of ways.
