A Doulton and Watts saltglazed stoneware figural spirit flask of Queen Caroline, She stands wearing a Crown and a long dress, holding a scroll 'My hope is in my people', impressed factory marks to base, circa 1820, height 22.5 cm, other notes: this figure is the first Royal commemorative from the Doulton Lambeth studio. Queen Caroline, the estranged wife of George IV, holds the banner inscribed 'My hope is in my People' showing she was popular with the public. However, she was despised by the King, who tried to divorce her and barred her from his Coronation. She died a few weeks later.
