A model stove, Han Dynasty. Red pottery stove of boat shape, slab-made, set upon a flat base. The object was originally glazed green overall (possibly over a white slip) but most of this glazing has now decayed or flaked. On the top of the stove are two round cooking-pots, one inset into a hole, the other standing just behind the heat-guard. A further round pot stands on the floor to the right of the fire-door. Two models of Han women stand, one to the left of the fire-door, the other at the edge of the stove-top. One arm of each of the women has been broken off, as has the left point of the headdress of the right-hand model. At the entrance of the firebox, a number of sticks of firewood are represented. Provenance: The Dr. Francis De Hamel collection, height 14 cm, width 11 cm
