A model farmhouse, Han Dynasty. Model made of red pottery with two figures looking out from the windows under a tiled overhanging roof. The house is L-shaped with a little walled courtyard to complete the square. The courtyard has its own small windows in its walls. The main house walls have been crudely incised with lines apparently representing decoration rather than timber framing. The whole is covered in a whitish pigment. Compare this model with a similar farmhouse shown in figure 174 on page 259 of Sekai Toji Zenshu Vol 10. It is worth also comparing with figure a on page 50 of spirit of Han, Southeast Asian ceramic Society, 1991. Provenance: The Dr. Francis De Hamel collection, height 18 cm, width 25 cm
