With both square and round glass table tops, width 99 cm, depth 99 cm, height 41 cm, Paul Evans was a wild card of late 20th-century modernism. A leading light of the American studio furniture movement, Evans's work manifests a singular aesthetic sense, as well as a seemingly contradictory appreciation for both 'folk art' forms and for new materials and technologies. Constantly experimenting with new materials and designs, his shop operated much like an industrial laboratory, and his highly innovative experimental approaches to metal have attracted an international following, especially over the past decade.
