Marius Jean Antonin Mercie (France 1845-1916) 'Gloria Victis,' parcel gilt bronze sculpture, signed and titled to foot, on marble base, height 62 cm total. The sculptor, Mercie, was studying at the French Academy in Rome when the Prussians invaded France in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, and the work was revised to serve as a tribute to the vanquished.
