An impressive large carved ivory oval presentation tray, most probably Dieppe, third quarter 19th century. Carved in highly detailed relief with over 90 individual characters and animals. The central cartouche depicting a tented medieval market scene with numerous purveyors and customers engaged in lively transactions, strips of ivory veneer radiate from the cartouche to a border of six panels carved with representations of folk involved in strolling, revelry, pastimes, dance, entertainment and belligerence, each panel separated by a neo-classical symbolic figure. 66 cm x 55 cm
