Early Victorian oak stick coastal barometer, c. 1840, register signed 'T. Underhill Optician, 24 Corporation St. Manchester', the case with arched cresting, mercury thermometer to waist, the cistern cover carved with a flowerhead, height 105 cm. Provenance: master Clockmakers, Camden, NSW. Private collection, Sydney. Other Notes: Thomas Underhill worked at 24, Corporation Street, Manchester from 1820 until 1840 when he moved to 70, bridge Street, Deansgate, Manchester. Before 1830 he signed simply, Underhill/Manchester?
