A rare copper and brass alloy pestle and mortar, the cylindrical shape cast with horizontal and vertical ribs, East Java, 17th-19th century a shaped steel pestle passes through the cover and locks the mortar together, a circular grip at the upper extreme. Note: Used to break up the coral to extract the lime and grind the betel nut for chewing. Condition: very good, no repairs, surface marks consistent with age wear, good natural patina, height 12 cm
