A finely decorated inside-painted glass snuff bottle, attributed to Ding Erzhong, 'The Lan Ting Shu', dated Beijing 1898 and Wuxian 1901 finely painted with figures by a stream in a landscape of trees, rocky outcrops, a waterfall and distant mountains titled Lanting Xu Qi Tu at a representation of the preface to the gathering at the Orchid Pavilion in 353AD, detailed calligraphy to the reverse with the complete script of 'The Lanting Xu'; signed Erzhong and inscribed in Beijing eleventh month winter Wuxu year (1898); additional 2 column colophon on the left hand side, signed Erzhong, summer Xinchou year (1901) inscribed 'Summer, Xinchou year, while living at Wuxian I look at this bottle again and feel it is the best calligraphy of all my pieces in my lifetime', red seal marks
