Description:
Recovered fragments from a Hurricane V7233, 87th squadron, Exeter, crashed 'The Fleer', near Portland, Dorset, P/O John Reynolds Cock (Renmark, South Australia) baled out into the sea and swam ashore. Shot down by a Messerschmit 109 flown by Helmut Wick, the top Luftwaffe ace of the Battle of Britain. John Cock was the first Aussie to shoot down a plane at night - a Heinkell III on 26/7/40. Dig was led by mastermind Stevev Vizard and Gareth Jones, September 2009.
