A monumental Japanese Imari floor vase Hichozan Iwahisa, Meiji period in two pieces and decorated overall in under glaze blue. Foliate flared rim with roundels of dragons, hoju no tama jewels and peony and cloud shoulder. Main design of two dynamic eagles amongst a floral strewn ground of peonies, morning glory, patrinia, bamboo, blossom, gnarled pine and turbulent water and rocky outcrops. Signed Dai Nippon Hichozan Iwahisa Sei - great Japan - Made by Hichozan Iwahisa - on the recessed base, approximately 213 cm high other Notes: the 'Hichozan' mark was used by the Japanese firm Tashiro, which produced and marketed porcelain wares from Arita for the Western export market from the mid 19th century. Painted in a Bunjinga (Literati) style, the vase would have been designed with the export market in mind and potentially offered at one of the great expositions or commissioned following these interactions.
