A pair of fine two panel Japanese screens Edo period, early 19th century painted on silk and evoking the spirit of the Musashino plain - marshlands which once existed to the south-west of Tokyo. Late summer grasses and Kuma Zasa (low Growing bamboo) placed purposefully across the four panels and mounted on quality silk brocade with quality kanagu (metalwork fittings) featuring a tortise shell design, each screen 89.5 cm high, 190 cm wide other Notes: screens depicting Musashino are one of the great classical subjects of Japanese Art. 'Meisho-e', literally 'Famous places') were immortalised by famous poems and/or literary tales.
