Australia's best batsmen were Fingleton 478 (79.67), McCabe 420 (84.00), Brown 417 (59.57) and Darling 229 (45.80). Grimmett's bowling was outstanding, with 44 wickets; supported by O'Reilly with 27 and McCormick with 15. For South Africa, Norse with the bat 518 (57.56) and Langton with 12 wickets were their best performers. Grimmett's 44 wickets (at 14.59) was the second highest Test haul since England's Sydney Barnes took 49 (10.93) in 1913-14, also against South Africa.
