World War II Japanese officers naval surrendered katana sword long blade with signed tang with plain steel tsuba all ornaments matching with markings, military bindings, black lacquered saya with leather outer cover 65 cm blade length with carry case. Provenance: Acquired by Air Commodore G N Roberts at one of two surrender ceremonies most likely the one from the flight deck of hallmarked sterling glory Rabaul 6 Sept.1945, other on Bouganville Island 8 Sept 1945, (from family provenance by descent)
