Preserving the Visual and Literary History of Australia the Bread and Cheese Club Archive: Formed in Melbourne in June 1938 and devoted to 'Mateship, Art and Letters', the all-male Bread and Cheese Club was active in promoting Australian writers, publishing around 40 books of verse and tributes, as well as its own journal 'Bohemia', the Melbourne book-collector, J.K. Moir was the first Knight Grand Cheese and mainstay of the club, devoting much of his considerable energy to its activities. It continued on after his death in 1958 but increasingly only as a shadow of its former self, finally closing in 1988.
