Large copper kettle. This is a ships kettle, the cylindrical base fits into the coal or wood fired stove top so it does not capsize with the rolling of the ship. It also aids heating. Origin is probably Scandinavian mid 1800's. See copy of National Geographic Article (enclosed in the kettle) featuring a similar kettle
