A sterling silver Fiddle pattern part flatware service, early to mid 19th century, various makers and dates, except where noted all items with the Balfour and Balfour-Melville crest (a dexter hand holding an olive branch) below the motto 'adsit deus' ('God be with me'), including five table spoons by Mackay and Chisholm Edinburgh 1853, four table forks by Mackay and Chisholm Edinburgh 1817, two table forks by Wm Summers London 1859, one table fork by Mackay and Chisholm Edinburgh 1816, five dessert spoons by William Johnson London 1834 (no motto), five dessert spoons by Peter Sutherland Edinburgh 1839 (lion rampant crest), one dessert spoon by Peter Gill Aberdeen circa 1820 (initialled 'Gmg'), together with late 19th century plated items including: fifteen dessert forks by Mackay and Cunningham, one dessert fork by James Dixon and Sons and one table fork by James Dixon and Sons, the silver 1,210 gms (41).Provenance: James Balfour (1830-1913), thence by descent to the present owner.
