A rare and important mid 19th century whalebone armchair, probably American, the arched and curved top rail above three bobbin turned spindles above square arms with conforming supports (one with wooden arm rest and turn supports) over a strap work seat, curved front rail raised on slender legs which form the front arm support, joined by a bobbin turned front rail and plain side and back rails (one side rail replaced), terminating in hoof shaped feet, 81 cm high to back, 34 cm high to seat, 52 cm wide.
