A late Victorian inlaid satinwood and mahogany metamorphic cheval mirror, by Thornhills, patent No 4586, the broken pediment surmounted by urns with central inlaid ram's head issuing a floral garland above a rectangular bevelled mirror plate within a floral inlaid border flanked by brass fluted columns with a pair of sconces to either side below turned buttons with internal release mechanism which causes the mirror to fall forward and become a writing surface supported on the brass columns, with leather insert, coromandel pen rests, engraved bronze inkwells and leather stationary compartments, above a solid cross stretcher decorated with a floral garland, raised on inlaid splayed legs terminating in brass hairy paw feet, stamped Thornhills Patent No 4586 on the top of both columns, later finials, 80 cm wide, 63 cm deep, 150 cm high.
