An Australian silver claret jug, by Fischer, Geelong, circa 1880, the ovoid body on a shallow trumpet foot with girdled neck and moulded rim spout, hinged lid and scrolled looped handle, the foot plain with a band of Greek key engraving, the body profusely engraved with foliate work around two cartouches and below a Greek key border, the handle and lid with engraved decoration, one cartouche vacant and one engraved 'Presented / to / Dr W.B.Wilkie / by the Members of / Court Waradgery A.O.F / in Appreciation of / Services Rendered As / Captain Surgeon / and As a / Mark of Esteem / Feb.Y. 28th 1882', marked on the base 'Sterling' and 'Silver' and engraved around the rim to one side of the spout (apparently with the single initial) 'G. Fischer Geelong'. Height 34.5 cm, 665gms.
