A fine rare Australian colonial sampler depicting the 19th century Australian Coat of arms, worked in silk and metallic thread in various stitches, of a central shield featuring the emblems of the four states beneath a rising sun and flanked by an emu to the left and kangaroo to the right above an embroidered banner proclaiming 'Advance Australia', the whole within a shield shaped mount, complete with plaque 'Worked by Miss Susie Collins St. Josephs Convent School Yass 1888', in a gilded frame, 62 cm wide, 64 cm high.
