A set of five early 19th century Australian cedar dining chairs, together with a later copy, Tasmania, the roll-over tablet top rail on rounded uprights with a plain concave cross rail above a drop in seat and moulded seat rail, raised on ring turned and moulded tapering legs (6). Provenance: Purchased by the current owner from Tom Pryor at Battery Point Antiques in Hobart in June 1984, with owner's receipt of purchase. Note: by repute these chairs are believed to be part of a larger set of chairs and this would make sense as these chairs are all numbered with Roman numerals to the rails as follows IIII, VI, XI, XII and XIII, there is also a minor variation in the front seat rail, with three having a rounded edges and two a square edge. Reference: for a matching armchair see '19th century Australian Furniture', by Kevin Fahy, Christina Simpson & Andrew Simpson, Sydney 1985, p. 426, plate 296.
