Description:
A noblewoman's coral-ground embroidered dragon robe, Jifu late Qing dynasty, the silk ground embroidered with nine golden dragons pursuing flaming pearls among scrolling clouds, ribboned bajixiang emblems, bats and flying cranes, a basket of fruits and flowers above lotus sprigs rising from the band of rocks and waves and a lishui border. 140 cm long, 195 cm wide. A turquoise-ground robe with similar wide horseshoe cuffs is illustrated by Linda Wrigglesworth and Gary Dickinson, Imperial Wardrobe pl. 178. Compare with a turquoise-ground dragon robe dated to the Daoguang period, sold Sotheby's, London, 8 November 2017, lot 48.
