A gold 'phoenix' hairpin, the bird standing on a cloud scroll base, its head raised and facing forward with beak open, the wings raised to either side and with long tail plumage, supported on cloud scrolls issuing from the end of the long flat double pins, incised detailing. 19 cm long overall. Compare with a gold hairpin dated to the Song dynasty exhibited in Adornment for Eternity Chinese Jewelry Through the Ages, Denver Art Museum, Colorado, 15 October 1994-3 September 1995.
