[Ward, Lock & Co, 1913] 1st Edition, 320pp Hard Cover in black and red textured binding with gilt titles on front and spine (bumped and starting to split). Colour frontis of Vera Harpen by L.M.Hunter. Some foxing, especially to prelims. Hume was an English lawyer and author. He spent a number of years in New Zealand and Australia where he began writing detective stories. This novel is based on the superstition that if a 13th guest arrives for Christmas dinner, he will not live through the next week.
