Hopetoun, seventh Earl of (John Hope, 1860?1908), Governor of Victoria, signature and seal on a November 1893 indenture granting a mining lease to Edward Kirwan and Patrick Doolan, both of Omeo. For £8/2/6 per annum they were entitled to mine the piece of land in the County of Bogong in the mining district of Gippsland. Several months later, in June 1894, the lease was transferred to new owners, once again changing hands in March 1895 to The Polar Star Gold Mining Company. Hopetoun was Governor of Victoria from 1889 - 1895 and was the first Governor General of Australia from 1901 - 1902.
