At the Brisbane Games 46 teams comprising 1583 athletes competed in 141 events, with Australia winning 39, one more than England on 38 and Canada in 3rd place with 26. In the pool, Tracey Wickham, Lisa Forrest and Lisa Curry won 7 swimming golds between them and Neil Brooks starred for the men, with 1 individual and 2 team golds. Rob De Castella won the marathon, Gary Honey set a new games record in winning the long jump, Raylene Boyle won the 400m, Debbie Flintoff the 400m hurdles and Glynis Nunn the Heptathlon.
