A fine Edward Hill California maple & inlay wardrobe c.1940. Edward Hill was a cabinet maker operating from Devonshire Street, Surry Hills from 1917-1964. in 1948 there was a proposed visit by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. This did not occur due to his death. Furnishings for the Royal Train Stateroom were designed by W.H. Greenwood and made by Edward Hill & Co. the furniture was made of Queensland maple with satinwood veneer. the present monarch visited in 1954, much is outlined in the book 'Fit For Royalty: the History of Edward Hill & Co, Furniture Maker 1917-1964'. 188 x 144 x 60 cm
